Woodworking
Reasoning
As of early 2023, I’d been reading a lot of Matthias’ website. He seems to be one of the few websites still left on the internet, a subject I have complained about before here. Anyway - between that and having remembered that I wanted to get into woodworking using my inheritance from my grandparents, I’ve started slowly collecting tools as I need them to work on projects.
Current Projects
Cat Tower
I made a tower for my cat. It was intended for Deckard, but Pekoe took it over. I mis-measured the thickness of both the base and the platform- I forgot that, as I was laminating two pieces of plywood together for each, they’d each be twice as thick. Since I was using 1/2 inch plywood, that means the tower’s about an inch taller than I’d counted on. I’ve still got to hot-glue some rope around the pillars so the cats can sharpen their claws and/or climb up the pillars. Pictures to follow!
Tools purchased for this project
- Staple gun
Upcoming Projects
French Cleat Tool Storage
Exactly what it says on the tin! I need to get my workshop cleaned up and having a better way to store tools (as compared to “pile them on the workbench”) will help with this!
French Cleat Bookcases
I’m very excited about these, but I have to finish the Cat Tower and the tool storage first. The short version is, I want to make a set of individual, box-shaped bookshelves that stack onto French cleats in my basement. The eventual idea would be that these can be put in a stairstep pattern, so the cat can climb up and down them, or, if I need the space, can be slid into the corner in a tidy, classic book-case stack.
Workshop
Unfortunately this is also my garage, which makes it crowded during the winter.
