Another Day, Another Dollar

I like to have goals for the week.

At least, I like to think I like to have goals for the week. I’d like to be the sort of person who has goals and likes it.

I start every week with this beautifully ambitious list of things I want to get done. Well, no- in an ideal world, I start every week with such a list. In practical matters, I pull that off about one week in three. And the lists tend to change day to day, too, so sometimes what I wanted to get done on a given week - or even a given day - will be radically altered during that week or day.

Today’s list was beautifully simple:

Then I realized, I need to put the rest of the things I didn’t get done yesterday on there too:

Then I realized, it’s Saturday - go to the gym - except I’m on call so I can’t, plus I’ve got a cold, so

And, oh yes, I’m trying to do a reading project, so

Lest I end up living, like a goblin, out of a pile of clothes on the floor- again-

If I have any spare time in all of this, I should

But now this list is starting to get awful long and I don’t want to make too much noise in the kitchen so I’ll

and OK, let’s sum up.

I’ve got about a dozen things I should or would like to accomplish today, and I’ve finished about three of ’em.

That feels pretty typical. Probably get another few done through the day. Maybe do ’em all.

Still wish I felt more like the person who likes having a list of goals rather than resenting the knowledge that I need the structure. I do wonder if there are any handy hacks I could use to help with that?

I know. I’ll put that on the list.
